Andrew Alderdice has more than 35 years of experience working in the health and human services sectors in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific and is currently leading Abt Associates’ domestic programs and consultancy practice in Australia.
Andrew has worked in a variety of roles, including as a consultant, executive manager and clinician. He has more than 25 years of experience in executive-level positions, including nearly nine years as director of a private management consulting business in Australia. He served as director of the Australian Government-funded health and HIV program in Papua New Guinea. Andrew has been the director of strategy for a regional health service, chief executive officer of a health and aged-care complex and director of a regional community health service.
Andrew leads and provides oversight for a range of Abt programs and projects focused in particular on those experiencing injustice, inequity and marginalization.
This includes the co-design of Indigenous adult and youth Throughcare models to enhance outcomes for an Aboriginal person leaving prison and re-integrating into the community. Similarly, Andrew is working with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peak health body to develop a model that will increase participation of Aboriginal Medical Services in providing high quality, culturally appropriate disability services. Andrew also leads the National Program Centre for the Australian Nurse Family Partnership Program (ANFPP), which enhances health outcomes by supporting Aboriginal Health Services in delivery of comprehensive maternal and infant care to first-time Indigenous mothers and their babies.
In his previous role at Abt, Andrew was director of the $27 million Health & HIV Implementation Service Provider project in Papua New Guinea, funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
Before coming to Abt, Andrew served as director and management consultant for Health Outcomes International, where he led or participated in more than 50 projects dealing with evaluation, strategy development, service planning, service-model reviews, literature reviews, and economic analyses. Key projects included: development of the National Drug Strategy and the National Alcohol strategy for the Australian Intergovernmental Committee on Drugs and the evaluation of the Commonwealth-funded Social and Emotional Wellbeing Centres in Cape York.
