Sally
Cameron
Sally Cameron has managed international development projects for 27 years. At Abt, she provides senior-level leadership and project management with a focus on economic growth projects in Africa. In this role, she provides management and technical support to field teams, seeks and coordinates input to understand each project’s development challenges and develop approaches for tackling these challenges, monitors performance in achieving development impact and satisfying the client, works with field teams to correct problems and improve quality, and contributes to project budget formulation and monitoring.
Cameron manages Abt’s work with the $48-million West Africa Trade Hub Initiative to build private-sector capacity and improve the trade-enabling environment along the region’s trade corridors. Her role is to help the project establish and maintain a strong technical and management foundation so that over five years it can help West Africans significantly increase trade in livestock, cereals, cashews, shea, mangoes and apparel. This involves working with the chief of party to articulate a clear vision of the project and coherent program of activities for each project component (value chain development, finance and investment, transport and trade-enabling environment). She also works with the monitoring and evaluation component to define indicators and monitor performance toward targets.
Cameron also manages Abt’s involvement with AgResults Impact Evaluation, a multidonor effort that tests pull mechanisms being piloted in several countries as a way to encourage the private sector to develop and adopt innovative technologies to enhance food security and improve small farmer welfare.
Also in the area of agribusiness and trade promotion, Cameron managed the West Africa Regional Trade Project, a $42-million initiative to expand commerce in livestock, cereals and onions through trade facilitation, organizational capacity-building, reduced road harassment, expanded access to financial services, improved access to market information and removal of policy barriers to trade. As portfolio manager, she was the lead person accountable for project performance. Cameron supported and supervised the chief of party, represented the company to the client on contractual matters and provided support to field teams.
