2019 Data Released on Veterans Experiencing Homelessness
November 20, 2019
New data collected and analyzed by Abt Associates for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) show that homelessness among veterans has declined by nearly 50 percent since 2009. Abt’s Jill Khadduri and Meghan Henry unpack the data in a new blog for the Center for Evidence-based Solutions to Homelessness. Among the key points, the authors write that the decline reflects reductions both in the number of veterans staying in shelters (down 48 percent) and in the number found in unsheltered locations (down by 52 percent), although racial disparities remain.
