Burkina Faso

Burkina Faso country quote

Malaria remains a major public health issue and is endemic throughout Burkina Faso. According to the Ministry of Health, malaria accounts for 43 percent of consultations with a health provider and 22 percent of deaths. PMI VectorLink is working with the Government of Burkina Faso to protect those most vulnerable to this disease.

Expanding Our Impact

Burkina Faso has struggled with food insecurity and a high incidence of malaria. The Abt-led Agribusiness and Trade Promotion project increased both the value and volume of higher-quality foods. The West Africa Trade and Investment Hub worked in livestock, cereal, apparel, and other regional and global value chains to reduce trade barriers and promote best practices. Abt trained hundreds of traders and truckers in Burkina Faso to make transit simpler and safer for cross-border trade. The PMI VectorLink project—also led by Abt—aims to provide indoor residual spraying to more than 250,000 structures in its 2018 Burkina Faso campaign as part of the government’s malaria reduction strategy.
