Dominican Republic

Dominican Republic country quote

Our project team used a ‘bottom up’ approach to help hospital teams detect and understand their own needs and develop tailored actions to remedy problems. All interventions were designed with and for the individuals, not simply to comply with the norm.

Vice President, International Development

Expanding Our Impact

Poor rural diversification decreases income, food security, and environmental protection for communities. The Abt-led Zika AIRS Project (ZAP) in the Dominican Republic recently conducted an indoor residual spraying (IRS) campaign to reduce the spread of the Zika virus. The nation’s health system needs reform to improve HIV/AIDS treatment, reproductive health services and maternal and child mortality rates. Abt worked directly with the Ministry of Health to enable hospital teams to understand their own needs and carry out appropriate responses to solve problems.
