Dominican Republic

Dominican Republic country quote

Our project team used a ‘bottom up’ approach to help hospital teams detect and understand their own needs and develop tailored actions to remedy problems. All interventions were designed with and for the individuals, not simply to comply with the norm.
Carlos Cueller, M.D.
Vice President, International Development

Expanding Our Impact

From increasing small-holder farmers’ incomes to improving health outcomes, Abt is helping to improve the quality of life and economic well-being of people in the Dominican Republic. An Abt team worked with farmers to diversify their crops and increase food security. The nation’s health system needs reform to improve HIV/AIDS treatment, reproductive health services and maternal and child mortality rates. We worked directly with the Ministry of Health to enable hospital teams to understand their own needs and carry out appropriate responses to solve problems. The Abt-led Zika AIRS Project (ZAP) conducted an indoor residual spraying campaign to reduce the spread of the Zika virus.
