Democratic Republic of Congo 2020 quote
When we learned there would be a mini-campaign for malaria communication with USAID Integrated Health Program support in our health zone, we wondered how it would work and what new results it might bring. We are amazed at how it was implemented and the results it brought us. We are committed to extending it to other areas.

Expanding Our Impact
The Democratic Republic of the Congo has faced tremendous challenges in recent years, including civil strife, corruption, and a deadly Ebola outbreak. In the midst of this instability, an Abt Associates-led project is strengthening the capacity of the Congolese health system to deliver quality integrated health services. We are tackling malaria—the DRC’s leading cause of maternal and child morbidity and mortality—as well as malnutrition; tuberculosis; maternal and child health; reproductive health and family planning; and water, sanitation, and hygiene.
Maternal and infant mortality rates in the DRC are among the highest in the world. Since the USAID Integrated Health Program began, almost 1.5 million newborns have received essential care.
