Because malaria remains one of the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in Burundi, Abt has expanded entomological monitoring activities from eight to nine sentinel sites.

Expanding Our Impact

Malaria is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in Burundi. USAID’s PMI VectorLink project, led by Abt, is tackling malaria in Burundi’s most vulnerable regions through mosquito net utilization and indoor residual spraying campaigns. The project is providing technical assistance in entomology and vector control, monitoring changes in insecticide resistance, and maintaining and equipping facilities for entomological surveillance.
