Haiti

Haiti country quote 2021

Across our mix of projects, Abt has worked closely with the Ministry of Public Health and Population, USAID, CDC and the private sector. We’ve empowered communities and developed on-the-ground expertise leading to reduced malaria transmission, increased demand for family planning and child health products and a strengthened health system overall.

Expanding Our Impact

Although Haiti was the first independent Caribbean state, it has suffered chronic instability due to natural disasters, political turmoil and an economy that is highly dependent on external economic conditions.

Abt Global is improving the health of Haitians and their resilience to internal and external shocks. We’re building Haitian expertise to prevent—and provide treatment for—debilitating and sometimes fatal diseases such as malaria, Zika and diarrheal diseases. Abt also is tackling Haiti’s high maternal and infant mortality rates and low contraceptive prevalence—the highest and lowest, respectively, in Latin America and the Caribbean. Key to these efforts is our work strengthening the Ministry of Public Health and Population’s (MSPP) governance of the entire health system, including human resources for health, financing, entomological surveillance, vector control and private sector development.
