In light of increasing demand for HIV/AIDS services and finite external and domestic funding, the private health sector is increasingly viewed as a means to expand access to critical health services in developing countries. Yet donors and developing country governments often have little information on the scale and scope of the private health sector, resulting in limited ability to partner in national HIV responses. Private sector assessments provide comprehensive “snap shots” of the private sector’s role and contributions to HIV/AIDS at the national level.
