Abt Associates’ staff has developed and implemented spatially specific modeling approaches for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to quantify, and often estimate the cost of, the impacts of climate change on a number of sectors and dynamics in the United States.
- Coral reef cover and visitation;
- Terrestrial ecosystem carbon storage;
- Wildfire frequency and severity;
- Fishing and winter recreation;
- Coastal and inland flooding damage;
- Bridge degradation and replacement;
- Water supply and demand;
- Vectorbone disease;
- Labor supply; and
- Human mortality associated with extreme temperatures (heat and cold).
Our ongoing research includes efforts on inland flooding and tick-borne disease. Our work coordinates efforts across in-house interdisciplinary teams of experts as well as external consultants.
This work supports the U.S. EPA Climate Change Division’s widely publicized Climate Impacts and Risk Assessment (CIRA) project. It also has resulted in the recent publication of numerous peer-reviewed articles.
