Evaluating JPMorgan Chase’s AdvancingCities Challenge
- JPMC is funding solutions to economic inequality in cities.
- Abt is JPMC’s national evaluation partner for this initiative.
- The five-year evaluation will conclude in 2023.
Through the AdvancingCities Challenge, JPMorgan Chase (JPMC) supports innovative approaches to addressing economic inequality in cities. JPMC is providing multi-million dollar grants to programs in individual cities, with a total of up to 30 grants expected to be awarded through 2023. Each grantee’s approach involves activities in at least two of JPMC’s four opportunity systems: small business expansion, neighborhood revitalization, financial health and jobs and skills. Grantees’ initiatives must also involve systems changes that make the opportunity systems more useful and accessible to underserved individuals, communities and small businesses.
Abt is serving as JPMC’s national evaluation partner for AdvancingCities. In this role, we will develop a conceptual framework and research design, coordinate with and provide technical assistance to local evaluators, host events and produce evaluation deliverables. The goals of Abt’s evaluation include: evaluating the extent to which each initiative meets its own goals; measuring progress on cross-grantee metrics; and documenting and cataloging the diverse ways in which the grantees as a whole are strengthening families, neighborhoods and public and private systems.
This five-year project will conclude in 2023.
