Supporting Greenhouse Gas Inventories, Baselines, and Mitigation Options Analysis in Port of Spain, Santa Ana, and Trujillo

Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago
Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago Abt Global in supported the cities of Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago; Santa Ana, El Salvador; and Trujillo, Peru in analyzing climate change mitigation options through a 2012 Inter-American Development Bank-funded project. The analysis focused on the energy, transportation, waste, wastewater and land use sectors.

Abt worked with the cities to develop and document their GHG emissions inventories in order to identify sectors and sources with the largest emissions. The team then developed baselines that projected emissions into the future to determine the growth trajectory of different emission sources. Abt also conducted options analysis and provided cost estimates to support the cities in identifying and selecting mitigation measures that have significant potential to reduce GHG emissions for government operations, the private sector, and community activities. Using this information, the cities are developing plans that will promote low-carbon development and help achieve air quality goals.
