U.S. Biomass Market Study

Abt Global conducted a study of the current state of the U.S. biomass market for the Environmental Protection Agency’s Climate Change Division.

The study focused on recent supply and demand trends, industry practices, and regional conditions in the U.S. market for solid biomass products used for electric power generation – such as wood chips – and thermal energy – such as wood pellets – and for export. The study included an in-depth review of existing and planned state and federal policies and programs with the potential to affect demand for biomass, including renewable energy requirements, air quality standards, thermal biomass incentives, forest and agricultural sustainability requirements, and forestry best management practices.
