Abt Recognized with EcoLeadership Award

In recognition of Abt Associate’s commitment to sustainability, the Alliance for Workplace Excellence has awarded Abt with the organization’s EcoLeadership Award, which recognizes “visionary employers that are paving the way for environmentally sustainable workplaces.” To be considered for the AWE EcoLeadership Award, businesses must complete a comprehensive and rigorous assessment process led by an Independent Review Panel of academics and business professionals.

Award-winning employers demonstrate a commitment to environmental sustainability in minimizing waste, conserving water, preventing pollution, supporting environmentally-conscious travel and reducing energy use.

Abt in 2015 announced a corporate commitment to decarbonization and pledged to reduce GHG emissions by more than 80 percent by 2050 from the 2012 base year. Guided by global GHG reduction requirements and aided by forecasting and scenario planning, Abt developed a series of near-term goals to ensure that it remains on track. Abt’s first near-term reduction goal is a 25 percent reduction by 2021.

In 2012, the company launched its Global Sustainability Program (GSP), which encompasses Abt’s global reach and deep explicit commitments to environmental as well as social responsibility. These commitments are detailed in Abt’s Sustainability Policy, which is renewed and updated biennially.

“Sustainability is deeply engrained within our mission of improving the quality of life and economic well-being of people worldwide and has been part of Abt’s fabric since the company was founded more than 50 years ago. We are honored to be recognized with this award,” said Olga Faktorovich Allen, who leads Abt’s Global Sustainability Program.

The Alliance for Workplace Excellence is a non-profit organization founded in 1999 by Montgomery County, Maryland and Discovery Communications. The organization will recognize Abt during an event on June 10 to honor 62 employers for their commitment to building excellent places to work in Montgomery County and throughout the United States.
