Brian
Sokol

Vice President, Digital Delivery

Brian Sokol has more than more than 25 years of experience bridging the fields of information systems, program implementation, and policy research. A technology strategist and data architect, he has worked on major projects for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Social Security Administration (SSA), Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).  The projects involved everything from COVID-19 epidemiology to homelessness. He has managed Abt’s Data Collection and Analytic Computing Environment, a secure, Amazon Web Services (AWS) platform that supports 400 users. He established a company-wide program to standardize processes around analytic programming, documentation, and reproducibility.

Sokol leads one of the four pillars of the Digital and Data Services (DDS) Division, the Digital Delivery Services Team. He manages a team of 35 technologists who provide IT project management, application development, and data management and integration services for Abt’s domestic and international client projects. The team he oversees offers solutions that include simple web sites, content management systems, complex surveys, large-scale data collection and management platforms, cloud migrations and modernization, and data visualization dashboards.

Sokol previously managed the team that collects, processes, analyzes, presents, and delivers data for two of CDC’s COVID-19 research projects. He scaled the team and implemented procedures and quality controls that met CDC’s need for rapid yet high quality data to inform critical public health decisions on a national scale. Both studies inform CDC public health guidance and White House briefings. He was the information technology director for the Benefit Offset National Demonstration, a nine-year $124 million study for the SSA that analyzed data on more than 1.2 million beneficiaries. Sokol has done extensive work for HIUD and the VA helping communities implement homeless management information systems. He also oversaw development of the data system that collects national data on homelessness for HUD’s Annual Homelessness Assessment Report.
